Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the Ocean Explorium at New Bedford Seaport. We intend to be one of the most innovative and interactive institutions in Southeastern Massachusetts.

An undertaking of this nature requires enormous support, and we hope you will take a moment to consider how you might be able to help. We offer a variety of opportunities for volunteers – behind the scenes as well as working with the public. In addition, some positions require more training than others.

We will certainly require volunteer assistance with office tasks such as document copying, filing and mailings. We also anticipate a need for technical assistance to keep the information systems current. Volunteers for exhibit maintenance and animal care will be needed, as will help with setting up and breaking down for events in the Ocean Explorium.

Volunteer “Explainers” will be stationed within the Explorium to assist visitors who need more information regarding the exhibits. Explainers will be trained to identify the species on display in aquarium tanks, to assist with the interactive elements and exhibits as well as to maintain the flow of visitors through the Ocean Explorium.
