Volunteer Spotlight

Volunteer Spotlight: Zachary Hahn

Zachary Hahn is a 14 year old freshman at Fairhaven High School. He has been a Blue Corps volunteer since August 2009. In the past Zak was a frequent volunteer at the Fairhaven Animal Shelter and he was a proud member of the Boy Scouts (Troop 52) in Fairhaven, where he earned the rank of First Class.

Zak has always been interested in all things relating to animals and science.  As a toddler it was the Crocodile Hunter, Magic School Bus and Bill Nye the Science Guy that intrigued him, not Sesame Street or Barney. When Zak was eight he won a Halloween costume contest dressed as Steve Irwin. Zak was born in Florida and spent his preschool years visiting the animal exhibits at Busch Gardens and Sea World, along with the many wildlife sanctuaries on the Gulf Coast for manatee, pelicans and dolphins.

Another place in Florida that was especially fascinating to Zak was the Kennedy Space Center.  He visited the space coast several times, once seeing a launch of the space shuttle and meeting a space shuttle astronaut.  It’s no wonder that the Ocean Explorium with its sea life and Hubble exhibits is such a perfect fit for Zak.
