Outreach

A comprehensive Outreach Program will continue to take the environmental message to a wider audience than those who visit the Ocean Explorium. A key component of the outreach program will be a moving exhibition—the WOW Mobile—that will carry programs and scientific equipment into the community, giving engaging lessons throughout the SouthCoast region.

The first phase of the WOW Mobile has already been in operation for three years. Many thousands of young people have had an opportunity to take part in the various activities it presents. The WOW Mobile program will be expanded to include additional teaching modules and more activities.

Another outreach activity—conducted in conjunction with industry partners—will bring the research vessel “Enviro-Lab” to New Bedford. School and youth groups will be taken into the Harbor for hands-on ocean research.

Additional outreach activities will be developed as the Explorium project unfolds, strongly emphasizing environmental issues and ocean stewardship.
