April Vacation at the Ocean Explorium

Come check out some plankton under a microscope!

Spring is here! Every day, lawns and trees are turning a little greener, so it is seems only natural that the Ocean Explorium should celebrate “Plankton Week” during Spring vacation!

Plankton are tiny drifting organisms as well as the larval form of marine plants and animals. Phytoplankton (the plants) are so abundant in Buzzards Bay, they make the water look green!

Activities planned for Plankton Week include examining samples under a microscope and inspecting the special nets and other equipment that scientists use to collect them. A Plankton matching game challenges visitors to pair larval forms with adult forms.

Let’s not forget Earth Day! On Tuesday, April 22, activities will include seed-planting and special presentations on Science on a Sphere®.

The Ocean Explorium will be open from Friday, April 18 through Sunday, April 27, from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM; closed Easter Sunday.
