Free Fun Friday

The Ocean Explorium has been selected to participate in the Free Fun Friday program funded by the Highland Street Foundation.   The Ocean Explorium offers a unique interactive experience, featuring marine life from local waters and around the world.   Touch life at the ray and shark exhibit, or dive into hands-on science at the Explorer’s Zone, offering experiments and crafts that are perfect for all ages.   Don’t forget to watch science come to life on our Science on a Sphere®.   Join in on the fun!   We look forward to seeing you.

 Young Ocean Explorers

Date: Mondays, except holidays and school vacations
Time: 10:30 AM until 12 Noon
Place: Ocean Explorium, 174 Union Street, Downtown New Bedford
Leader: Ally Bizer Knox, Ocean Explorium Educator and Artist
Price: $35 Sea Star Punch Card: punch all six stars, receive a seventh free of charge.  Passes expire 6/30/13, and are transferable but not refundable.

Activities designed especially for the pre-school set, age 2 to 5. Enjoy ocean themed stories, crafts and songs, with a “featured creature” each week.

Feed the Fish!

Date: Daily (Winter – Thursday through Sunday)
Time: 11 AM and 2 PM – Rays and Sharks; 11:30 AM and 2:30 PM, all other exhibits
Place: Ocean Explorium, 174 Union Street, Downtown New Bedford
Leader: Ocean Explorium Aquarist Staff
Price: $5 – Rays and Sharks, $3 – all other living exhibits

Assist the husbandry staff in the care and feeding of our living exhibits. Learn about the marine life in the selected habitat, what they eat and why. For guest safety, a 48″ height requirement must be met, and those who are allergic to shellfish or seafood should not participate.

Purchase fish feeding at our gift shop the day of your visit. First come, first serve basis.

Grow your own Coral in our Coral Farm

Date: Daily (Winter – Thursday through Sunday)
Time: 1 PM
Place: Ocean Explorium, 174 Union Street, Downtown New Bedford
Leader: Ocean Explorium Aquarist Staff
Price: $5

A truly unique experience! Plant a coral branch in the Living Laboratory, then return to gauge its progress. This is an opportunity to interact with a staff aquarist, and a chance to learn how to save the world’s coral reefs – one coral branch at a time. Those who are allergic to shellfish or seafood should not participate.

Purchase coral planting in our gift shop the day of your visit. First come, first serve.
