NEW BEDFORD, MA (25 February 2010) — The Ocean Explorium, with generous support from the Women's Fund of the Community Foundation of Southeastern Massachusetts, announces the second annual Women in Science + Engineering (WiSE) speaker series.

NEW BEDFORD, MA (16 February 2010) — The Ocean Explorium announces a second speaker series, Cosmic Voice, will begin this week.

On Thursday, February 18, Kelly Beatty will present "The Sputnik Years".  A specialist in planetary science and space exploration as well as Senior Contributing Editor for Sky & Telescope magazine, Mr. Beatty states "When a Russian rocket lofted Sputnik I into orbit on October 4, 1957, the worldwide reaction was a mixture of awe and apprehension.  The Space Age - and the Space Race - had begun."

NEW BEDFORD, MA (30 September 2009)— The Ocean Explorium is about to launch a stunning new exhibit, which will take visitors on a celestial journey through the eyes of the world’s greatest space telescope ... Hubble!

The Ocean Explorium is inspiring inner city children through the creation of a mural at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater New Bedford. The mural’s theme—Pelagic Marine Animals—features whales, tuna, sharks, dolphins, turtles and more.

First there was a vision. Then there was The Sphere. Now, after years of hard work and anticipation, the Ocean Explorium in New Bedford has gone “live”.

It is open daily to the public with a vibrant and charismatic collection of marine animals from around the world.

"This is a great occasion for the city of New Bedford," said Mayor, Scott Lang, who officially opened the Ocean Explorium today at a ribbon-cutting ceremony with University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Chancellor, Jean MacCormack.

NEW BEDFORD, MA (19 June 2009)— Picture a place where Mom can relax while the kids enjoy supervised arts and crafts, water fun, puzzles, books, and dramatic play.

 

Just outside the door is an exciting world of marine life­, including a living coral reef, anemone fishes, jellyfish, seahorses and local New England fishes and scallops.

On July 4 the Ocean Explorium will open its doors to the public seven days a week—complete with several new living aquarium exhibits and an innovative children’s activity center.

NEW BEDFORD, MA (10 June 2009)—The Ocean Explorium is starring in a powerful new documentary about the oceans, which will be seen by millions of people around the world.

The two-hour long documentary is called Underwater Universe, and is being aired this month on the History Channel. It has also been made into a DVD, which is being marketed globally.
