Ocean Explorium
The Sea: we look to it for inspiration, sustenance and adventure. Our community is defined by the sea. Throughout our history we have taken both pleasure and profit from the waters that meet our shores and from the oceans beyond.

But how much do we know about the sea and the forces that act upon it? How can we be wiser and more effective stewards of this wonderful resource? How can we meet the challenges and opportunities that face our friends and neighbors who make their living from the sea? How can we ensure that our children will both love the sea and embrace its critical role in their lives?

Set to open in the summer of 2008, the Ocean Explorium at New Bedford Seaport is offering a Family Pass that will guarantee priority admission on Opening Day and provide unlimited admission for up to 2 adults and 2 children until December 2008.

Highlights of this major exhibition include the Science on a Sphere®. Serving as a focal point of the Ocean Explorium’s educational programming, this globe uses high-speed computers, multiple projectors and advanced visualization techniques, to create an image of the planet in 3-D. Time Magazine has called Science on a Sphere® “…one of the top ten inventions of 2006.”

Other planned exhibits include a Touch Tank that will welcome children to reach for the stars as they touch and feel the wonders of the sea. The Working Waterfront exhibit will introduce the many aspects of a vibrant fishing port, highlighting the beloved relationship between local residents and the sea.

“Advance Ticketing of the Family Pass is a great way to participate in this exciting project--right now,” states Denell Pepin, marketing and development manager for the Ocean Explorium. “We do anticipate a significant amount of activity when we open our doors this summer… a Family Pass will guarantee families a unique experience on Opening Day and throughout 2008.”
