<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Susan Peterson has a Ph.D. in
anthropology from the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype>
 of <st1:placename w:st="on">Hawaii</st1:placename></st1:place>.&nbsp; Susan
worked at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for over ten years, specializing
in ocean policy, and several years at <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:placename w:st="on">Boston</st1:placename> <st1:placetype w:st="on">University</st1:placetype></st1:place>
in the same role. Most of her work was quantifying and qualifying commercial
and recreational fishing effort so that the cultural, social and economic
motivations for fishing could be incorporated into fishery management
decisions.<span style="">&nbsp; </span>In the mid-1980s, she left
academia for industry.<span style="">&nbsp; </span>She founded and
was President of Ecological Engineering Associates (EEA), a company that uses
natural systems for wastewater treatment, from which she retired in 1998 to do
full-time consulting.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

marine environments is conducted through satellite remote sensing, large data
sets, networking, and high-speed computing. Currently, his work includes assessing
the importance of continental margins, including areas of upwelling, river discharge,
and coral reefs in the global carbon budget, using satellites that measure
